Listening to God Together
Life is full of surprises — sometimes good, sometimes difficult, and oftentimes challenging beyond what we know how to handle. In the Christmas story, Elizabeth and Mary both received surprises: they were pregnant, beyond all natural understanding. Luke 1:26-56 teaches us that though Elizabeth and Mary were facing challenges, they stood together and trusted God. Their trust and obedience allowed the way for Jesus and John the Baptist to be born.
Call to mind the challenging surprises you’re facing right now. If not your own struggle, who are you standing with as they face a difficult season? In these moments, follow the example of Mary and Elizabeth by two simple steps:
Listen to God - Trust that God is already working in the midst of this surprise. Ask God what he is teaching you. What next step might he have in store for you? Where can you lean for support?
Listen together - God is good to provide people who will be in the surprise with you. Who do you embrace life’s surprises with? Who do you listen to God with?
