Practice Makes Permanent | May 7, 2023 | Make Disciples
A disciple is one who learns from and takes on the way of life of another. Everyone is being discipled by someone or something. Think about it - who do you act like, think like, sound like? A disciple of Jesus loves God like Jesus, loves others like Jesus, and makes disciples like Jesus. Some followers of Jesus will say, “I’m not a disciple-maker.” The truth is, you embody some way of life so that anyone who encounters you, encounters that way of life. You are a person of influence! The question is, “Are you making disciples of Jesus?” Being a disciple of Jesus and making disciples of Jesus is not either/or; it’s both/and. Watch the message for Jesus’ invitation in Matthew 28 and all throughout his life and ministry to be a disciple of him and make disciples with him.
KEY VERSES
Matthew 28:16-20 NLT - 16 Then the eleven disciples left for Galilee, going to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him—but some of them doubted! 18 Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. 19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
Matthew 4:18-20 NLT - 18 One day as Jesus was walking along the shore of the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers—Simon, also called Peter, and Andrew—throwing a net into the water, for they fished for a living. 19 Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!” 20 And they left their nets at once and followed him.
Mark 4:26-29 NLT - 26 Jesus also said, “The Kingdom of God is like a farmer who scatters seed on the ground. 27 Night and day, while he’s asleep or awake, the seed sprouts and grows, but he does not understand how it happens. 28 The earth produces the crops on its own. First a leaf blade pushes through, then the heads of wheat are formed, and finally the grain ripens. 29 And as soon as the grain is ready, the farmer comes and harvests it with a sickle, for the harvest time has come.”
